JACKSONVILLE —
Post season activities will get under Friday night for both the Brook Hill Guard and the Alto Yellowjackets.
Brook Hill (6-4) will make a 440 mile (one-way) trip out to Midland for its TAPPS, Division II opening round game against Midland Christian (9-1).
Both units won state championships a year ago — the Guard the Division III crown while the Mustangs captured the Division II title.
In UIL Class A, Division I, Region III play, Alto (8-2) will square off against Harleton (7-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bradshaw Stadium on the campus of West Rusk High School in New London.
Brook Hill vs. Midland Christian
MIDLAND —The Guard enter the post season fresh off a 66-44 win over Carrollton Prince of Peace last week.
That win garnered the Guard the fourth, and final, playoff berth out of District 2.
Guard quarterback Will weathers had a hand in six touchdowns in that game.
He passed for 131 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 159 yards and three scores.
T. J. Dunks also had a nice effort in rushing for 127 yards on nine carries.
The Mustangs' only loss came to Big Spring (17-12) in Week 1.
Midland Christian has beat its foes by an average score of 41-14 this year.
The game will be played at Mustang Field (1,500 capacity) in Midland.
Alto vs. Harleton
NEW LONDON — The Yellowjackets closed the regular season with a 45-20 win over Shelbyville last week.
At the same time the Wildcats dropped a 34-22 decision to No. 5-ranked Joaquin.
The Yellowjackets of head coach Keith Gardner are ranked No. 13 in this week's Class a poll — Harleton is not ranked.
The winner of the Class A, Division I, Region III affair will move on to face Hull Daisetta, who has a bye this week, in an Area contest next week.
