JACKSONVILLE —
Garrett Bonner struck out 10 batters in Jacksonville's 2-1 loss to Center in the regular-season opener for both clubs Tuesday night at Summers Norman Field.
The Tribe also received a nice piece of relief work from Ruston Diers, who retired each of the three Roughrider hitters that he faced in the seventh inning.
Jacksonville got on the board first when Dillon Rodriquez crossed the plate on a hard ground ball off the bat off Brett Eckles in the bottom of the third.
Center then came back and scored both of their runs with two outs in the fourth inning.
Tribe head coach Mike Eckles recognized Brayden Rawlinson, Rodriquez and Zeke Edwards as offensive leaders for the Indians.
Center came away with a 9-6 victory in the junior varsity game.
The varsity Indians will open play today in the Chapel Hill Tournament, with games scheduled to be played in Chapel Hill and in Arp.
The junior varsity team will host the Summers Norman Tournament, which also gets under way today.
