JACKSONVILLE —
JC, LMC basketball standouts receive Region XIV accolades
TYLER — Region XIV officials released the all-region and all-conference teams late Monday night with several Jacksonville College and Lon Morris College standouts receiving recognition. JC’s Eric Kibi (Ottawa, Canada) earned All-Region Second Team as did Lady Jaguar, Rayvin Miller (Shreveport, La.). Kibi and Miller also made their respective all-conference listings as first team choices. LMC’s Brenda Adhiambo (Mombasa Bay, Kenya) also earned all-conference (first team) mention. Jorge Redmon (Arlington, Texas) nabbed all-conference second team for the Bearcats. Among the honorable mentions picks, Bryce Hill (Clovis, NM), Jamie Johnson (Lewisville) and Precious Herrin (Shreveport, La.), all of Jacksonville College. Representing LMC on the honorable mention list is Christy Willis (Houston) and Diamond Austin (Hemphill). Most valuable player awards went to Matt Pressey of Navarro College and Trinity Valley’s Gloria Brown. Scott Gernander (San Jacinto), men, and Byron Coleman (Angelina), women, came away with coach of the year awards.
Navarro men and Trinity Valley women win Region XIV titles
TYLER —Led by 20 points from Jantzen Carter, Navarro College beat Paris Junior College, 55-46, Monday night to capture the Region XIV men’s basketball title. The Bulldogs will represent the conference in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. later this month. Trinity Valley Community College spanked Tyler Junior College, 88-71, in the women’s final Monday to take the title for the third-straight season. The Lady Cards now advance to the NJCAA National Championship in Salina, Kan. later this month. It will be TVCC’s 15th appearance in the event.

Class 3A poll
AUSTIN — The Rusk Lady Eagles (13-1) continue to hold down the No.1 position in this week’s Class 3A poll, released Tuesday morning by the Texas Girl’s Coaching Association. Rusk lost its first game of the year over the weekend in the Longview Tournament as the Lady Eagles were edged out, 3-2, by North Little Rock (Ark.) High School, a Class 7A softball powerhouse in the state of Arkansas. Trailing Rusk in the poll is, Lucas Lovejoy, LaGrange, fellow District 18-3A member, Huntington, as well as Van.
Guard wins Tourney
POLLOK — Brook Hill downed Shelbyville, 9-2, on Saturday to win the Polk Oil Classic hosted by Pollok Central High School. Drew Robertson and Jared Dickey joined forces to pitch a three-hitter for the Guard who now stand 6-2 on the year. Brook Hill advanced to the championship game after thrashing Trinity, 12-3, earlier in the day. In that game, Brook Hill’s Cody Bryant struck out eight and allowed just a pair of hits. Bryant was named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for his efforts. Other players of impact for the Guard in the Trinity game include, J. B. Moss (3-for-3, three RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases) and Jake Beam who lashed a double. The Guard return to the diamond Thursday where they are slated to face Fort Worth Trimble Tech in the Lindale Tournament.
