ARLINGTON, Texas —
First the good news.
The Texas Rangers are currently well entrenched into first place in the AL West standings with a 59-42 record.
Texas is 7 1/2 games in front of second place Oakland A’s and 8 1/2 in front of the Los Angeles Angels.
The Rangers wrapped up a scheduled seven game home stand against Oakland last night and will now hit the road for nine games out west over the next 10 days.
Now, for the not so good news.
First, the Rangers placed second baseman Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled with a strained left groin.
The move came on Thursday after Kinsler did not play in his team’s 3-1 loss to Oakland on Wednesday night.
Kinsler began the year on the DL and missed the first 22 games with a high ankle sprain that he suffered in spring training.
Kinsler is batting .298 with six homers and 38 RBI in 76 games.
To fill Kinsler’s spot on the roster, Texas purchased the contract of first baseman/outfielder Mitch Moreland from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Andres Blanco and Joaquin Arias are expected to fill in for Kinsler at second.
Mark Lowe was transferred to the 60-day DL to make a spot for Moreland on the 40-man roster.
In other less than cheery news revealed Thursday, former Ranger, turned New York Yankee, Alex Rodriquez, has filed an objection to the Aug. 4 auction of the Texas Rangers.
Rodriquez states bidders are not required to pay money still owed to him and other former members of the team.
Rodriquez is still owed $24.9 million in deferred compensation six years after being traded to the Yankees.
His motion was among more than a dozen objections filed Wednesday, most by creditors.
The auction to sell the ballclub is set for Wednesday. The starting bid is from a group led by Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan and Pittsburgh lawyer Chuck Greenberg, whose plan to buy the Rangers has been stalled for several months.
Their $575 million bid includes paying the full $204 million owed to A-Rod and other unsecured creditors.
