ATHENS —
As a result of winning the District 10 tournament, the Rusk Express have qualified for the Texas Teenage Baseball Association Senior Midget Boys (9-10-year-olds) State Tournament, which is being played at Coleman Park in Athens this week.
The Express defeated the Cameron Orioles on Tuesday night in their first tournament action.
Rusk was scheduled to play at least one and possible two games on Wednsday, weather permitting.
Other teams participating in the week-long double-elimination event include the host Athens Rangers, Ennis Bragg’s Appliance, Brownwood Lions, Belton Seminoles, Copperas Cove Reds, Temple Hurricanes, Texarkana-Redwater Longhorns, Clifton Doc’s Crew, Groesbeck Circle J Ranch, Lindale White Sox, Kerens Bobcats, Edgewood Bulls and the Troup Rattlers.
The Express are coached by Brian Townsend.
Team members include, Sam Ballzglier, Gregory Ferrara, Cobie Hamilton, Daniel Lowe, Edward Martin, Nathan Martin, Parker Millsap, David Plata, Jacob Sexton, Jared Sexton, Drew Shifflet, Tevin Taylor, Hunter Townsend, Andrew Johnson and Konner Gayle.
