JACKSONVILLE —
Local softball fans will find plenty of well-known names on this year's 17-3A All-District softball team, as players from Rusk and Bullard High School comprised a large portion of the prestigious squad.
District Most Valuable Player lauds went to Lady Eagle second baseman and leadoff hitter, Kara Hugghins.
Rusk also supplied the Offensive Player of the Year in catcher Kelsey Blankinship, while the Defensive Player of the Year went to Lady Panther center fielder Taylor Frederick.
The Lady Eagles' pitching ace, Sydney Littlejohn, who has given a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama, was named as the Pitcher of the Year.
Cheyanne Phillips of Rusk garnered the award for Utility Player of the Year.
Newcomer of the Year was awarded to Haley Durden of Athens.
Lady Eagles' head coach, Ashley Renner, a former University of Texas-Tyler softball standout, picked up Coach of the Year honors, after guiding Rusk to an undefeated district campaign.
Lady Eagles that nabbed a First Team mention were: Bailee Gates (third base), Juliann Bowling (shortstop), and outfielders, Chelsie Daniels, Shayla Townsend and Tori Choate.
Bullard left fielder Nikki Johnson also earned a First Team mention.
