CORPUS CHRISTI —
Jacksonville College's latest men's tennis signee, Daniel Apacible (Corpus Christi, Pope John Paul II High School) brings with him a vast amount of experience at a high level and against top-flight competition.
Apacible, the second young man to have inked a National Letter of Intent to play on the school's first tennis team, finished ninth in the UIL Class 4A State Tennis Championships (singles) this spring.
JC head tennis coach, Kenneth Michaud, likened Apacible, to a delicious fruit that is still growing on the vine in the days leading up to it being harvested for consumption.
“Daniel (Apacible) is a very talented tennis player,” Michaud said. “I don't think he is anywhere near being at his peak and I think that he has decided to come to Jacksonville College to elevate his game even further.
“He has a strong skill set and I consider him a bit of a secret in Texas.”
Michaud said that he would like to sign around four to six additional men.
“Most colleges started signing kids in the winter, so we are behind most teams and we are a first-year program,” he said. “But we have made big strides in a few short weeks (on filling the roster) and it is just a matter of getting the word out to those (kids) that don't know about us, and reaching the players that want more than anything else to be able to continue their tennis careers at the college level.”
