JACKSONVILLE —
If an award for most improved team was given out, the Jacksonville Fight'n Maiden softball squad would have been, hands down, favorites to capture the accolade.
The Jacksonville nine, under the guidance of head coach Rick Cullum, finished the year with a 12-18 record, which is the best that the outfit has finished in recent years.
So, with that being said, it came as no surprise that six members of the Fight'n Maiden squad earned a spot onto the recently announced 14-4A All-District Softball Team, which was determined by a vote of the league's coaches.
Senior-third baseman Kali Finch led the way by picking up a First Team accolade.
She was voted as the team Most Valuable Player, after hitting .455 this past season.
Finch accounted for four home runs, three triples and 13 two-base knocks.
Mackenzie Crow, a junior, came away with 2nd Team mention for her efforts at first base.
Crow hit .477 and clubbed two triples and 14 doubles this year.
Jacksonville sent four players, Brittany Black, Elisha Holcomb, Ashli Jennings and Nicole Robinson to the 14-4A Honorable Mention roll.
Black was the top defensive player on the Maiden squad. She finished the year with a .949 fielding percentage at catcher.
Black, Holcomb and Jennings are all seniors, while Robinson is a 10th-grader.
Three Maiden softballers also excelled in the classroom and were awarded Academic All-District recognition.
Those young ladies were, seniors, Jennings and Black, and sophomore Kaitlyn Hutson.
