JC men get key stops late to keep Blinn at bay

BRENHAM — Jacksonville College got three key defensive stops in the final 47 seconds to escape with a 72-69 win over Blinn College in a Region XIV game that took place Saturday night at the Blinn P.E. Building.

The Jaguars (18-7, 9-5 Region XIV) are now tied with San Jacinto and Tyler Junior College for third place in the league standings.

JC's game winning shot came with about 20 seconds left in the game when Kennedy Eubanks came up with a steal and immediately fired the ball down to Davon Anderson who threw down a dunk that put the Jags up by three.

Anderson, a freshman from Bronx, NY, came off of the pine to lead JC in scoring (20). He also accounted for six rebounds and four assists.

“Every game is unique and different,” JC head coach Jody Bailey said. “(Against Blinn) Kennedy (Eubanks) and Daniel (Skinner) were having off nights, but Davon Anderson, and some of the other guys stepped right up and delivered and that's what we had to have.”

The Jags host Coastal Bend at 6 p.m. tonight

Mitchell Farr and Nimrod Hillard IV tossed in 10 apiece for the Jags.

Farr canned two shots from beyond the arc and Hillard lassoed seven rebounds as well.

JC continues conference play at Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse tonight by welcoming in Coastal Bend.

Tip-off will take place at 6 p.m. as the JC women have the evening off.
