LMC women fourth at golf nationals

DAYTONA, Fla. — The Lon Morris College women’s golf team took fourth place at the 2008 NJCAA women’s national championship tournament held here recently.

Redland Community College was the first place winner with a 313-320-313-946 score. Lon Morris took fourth carding a 350-321-314-985 total for three rounds at the par 72 6,025-yard course.

Noelle Willcoxon led the LMC squad finishing ninth in the nation with scores of 86-77-73-236.

Lucy Clarke finished tied for 17th with scores of 84-81-80-245; Aymara Villarroel was tied for 20th, scores of 87-81-80-248; tied for 32nd place was Mariana Villarroel, with scores of 93-82-81-256.

LMC’s team is coached by Barry Griffin.

The Tyler Junior College team, coached by Jess Hamilton and Sandy Terry, took sixth place in the event. Hamilton is a long time Jacksonville golfer and Terry is the former LMC head golf coach.

Tyler had scores of 358-342-335-1,035 in the event. Top golfer for TJC was Bullard’s Elizabeth Rosebury.

Rosebury had rounds of 83-88-77-248 to finish tied for 20th in her first national action.

The Top 15 golf teams in the nation took part in the event.

The LMC men will compete in the Men’s Golf NJCAA National Tournament May 19-23 in Huntsville, Ala.
