JACKSONVILLE —
Jacksonville High School had two representatives, Shelbi Laney and Alayna Jeffcoat, elected to the District 16-4A Volleyball Team, which was determined by a vote of the league's coaches.
Laney and Jeffcoat are both seniors.
In addition Mackenzie Crow, S.r, Kevie Mathis, Sr. and juniors Kelley Crosby and Gentry Hammons all garnered Honorable Mention status.
Savannah Cantrell (Lindale) and Fulani Petties (Whitehouse) were named as the district's most valuable players.
Hitter of the Year went to Zhanelle Geathers of Lindale while Defensive Player of the Year was won by Whitehouse's Bonnie Cotton.
Blocker of the Year was given to Breanna Choice and Quaneshia Johnson was tabbed as the Setter of the Year.
Choice and Johnson both played for John Tyler.
Whitehouse's Ashton Ates was picked as the Newcomer of the Year.
Eleven players, including Laney, were First Team choices, while Jeffcoat joined nine others on the Second Team roll.

The last ride of the night turned out to be the most spectacular ride of the evening Wednesday night when Austin Meier scored an 87 for his ride atop "Rainbow" in the final segment of bull riding on the opening night of the Tops In Texas PRCA Rodeo.
