ARP —
Troup led from start to finish in its 8-3 victory over arch-rival Arp which came Tuesday night at Arp.
The win rocketed the Lady Tigers to a 4-0 start in District 18-2A, where they now sit alone. Troup is 18-4-2 overall.
Troup jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning and then sealed the deal with a five-run offensive explosion in the top of the third.
Arp was not ready to give up though as the hometown Lady Tigers scratched three runs across in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Troup margin to 7-3.
The game's final run was scored by Troup in the top of the sixth.
“I liked how we didn't give up after Arp got their runs,” Troup head coach Sam Weeks said. “I know that the girls were super pumped up about the game, with the rivalry between the two schools.”
All total, Troup plated eight runs on eight hits, while Arp had three runs on four hits.
Josee Ross and Ronni Boyer led Troup at the plate.
Ross went 3-for-4 and belted a solo home run while scoring three times.
Boyer, a senior, went 2-for-2 on the night.
Ross handled the pitching duties for the winners.
She struck out nine and walked only one and needed just 90 pitches to get the win (complete game) in the circle.
