METAIRIE, La. —
The New Orleans Saints announced on Monday morning that they have released NFL veterans Luke McCown (QB) of Jacksonville and defensive tackle Remi Ayodele, as the team had to shrink its roster in order to get down to a 75-player limit.
McCown signed with the Saints on June 7 of this year during a period where the Saints' starter, Drew Brees, was in the midst of a long contract hold out.
In addition to Brews, the Saints are carrying quarterbacks Chase Daniel and Sean Canfield.
McCown, is the brother of Josh McCown who plays professionally for the Chicago Bears.
Luke McCown was the 106th-overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft where he was taken by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round.
He also played for Tampa Bay and Jacksonville, prior to signing with the Saints.
New Orleans also waived the following players on Monday: Aaron Tevis (LB), Brian Folkerets (C), Jake Byrne (TE), Johnny Thomas (S), Derek Moye (WR), Paul Fenaroli (OG), Hutch Eckerson (OT), Donavan Robinson (DE), Kevin Hardy (WR), Kameal McIlwain (CB), Swanson Miller (DT), Cord Parks (CB) and wide receiver Marques Clark.
