JACKSONVILLE — For the second time in as many year's, a Jacksonville College men's basketball coach has been promoted into the ranks of the Southland Conference (NCAA Division I). Cinco Boone is the latest Jaguar bench boss to make the switch. Boone's 2009-10 team ended up 15-16, having qualified for the regional tournament. JC athletic director Lynn Nabi announced on Friday that Boone has taken a position on the men's basketball coaching staff at Stephen F. Austin State University. With the move, Boone joins his predacessor, Greg Young, in the Southland Conference — Young departed JC last summer for an assistant coaching position at the University of Texas Arlington. Jody Bailey will be taking over the reins of the Jag program. Bailey, 37, comes to JC after serving the past three years as the Director of Basketball Operations at Colorado University of the Big 12 Conference. Bailey has over 14 years of coaching experience at the high school and college level and has also worked as an NBA scout for three years. The Louisville, Ky native earned a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Louisville where he served as a volunteer assistant coach from 1993-95 under Hall of Fame coach Denny Crum. Bailey said that he is happy to be at JC for several reasons. "We're thankful and blessed for the opportunity to be here at Jacksonville College because, first of all, it is a good college and this conference (NJCAA Region XIV) is second-to-none in the country when it comes to top-quality men's basketball." he said. "I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get busy with recruiting and (with) practice." Bailey stated that his Jags will employ a "fast paced" style of play that will hinge on solid rebounding and defensive play. Bailey and wife, Joy, are parents of one child, son J. Lawrence, age 14 months.
