HALLSVILLE —
The Jacksonville High School ladies came to play Thursday, sweeping six singles matches and three doubles match ups as Tribe tennis improved to 2-1 on the young season by upending a talented Hallsville squad, 10-9.
Ellie Day (No.1), Kristie Savage (No. 2), Samantha Lee (No. 3), Carolina Hernandez (No. 4), Maria Landin (No. 5) and Angela Meciallas (No. 6) all earned straight set wins over their opponents from Hallsville.
Perhaps the most dominating performance was delivered by Hernandez, who thumped Hannah Wells, 6-0, 6-0.
The Tribe girl's doubles pairings of Day & Lee and Hernandez & M. Landin coasted to straight set wins while A. Landin & Meciallas needed three sets to dispatch Rebekah Hunt & Wells.
The final score of that match was 7-5, 4-6, (10-4).
Jacksonville also secured the point in mixed doubles play where Savage & Christian Roper knocked off Nutt & Turner, 6-1, 6-3.
Hallsville's boys out performed the Jacksonville lads as the Bobcats won every boy's singles and doubles match that was played.
In No. 6 tingles, Andres Ferretiz almost tasted victory, but Luke Somers rallied in the end to win 6-3, 7-6, (10-8).
Roper also logged a competitive effort out the No. 1 singles slot where he fell to Tanner Neely 4-6, 4-6.
Other boys that saw duty in singles play for the Tribe were, Bryan De La Rosa, Bradley Smith, Dylan Perry and Chris Shoemaker.
Jacksonville will host former district rival Kilgore beginning at 4 p.m. this afternoon at the Jacksonville Tennis Complex.
The match will be the first of three-consecutive home appearances by the Tribe.
The home stand is scheduled to run through Sept. 8.
