Ex-Panther Greene leading Texas A& M into Big 12 tourney
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Texas A& M Aggies are in Oklahoma City this week to participate in the 14th annual Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship which will take place at A T & T Bricktown Ballpark in historic downtown Oklahoma City. The Aggies (36-19-1) are seeded 4th in the eight-team event with a 14-12-1 conference record and were scheduled to open tourney play yesterday against Texas Tech (27-27). A& M is taking part in the tourney for the 12th time and has an all-time record of 18-19 in the tourney. The Aggies, led by former Bullard standout Brody Greene, enter play as one of the hottest teams in the league and the country, having won 14 of their last 17 outings. Greene, a senior outfielder, is batting .425 over the last 10 games with three home runs, nine RBI, 15 runs scored and six stolen bases. He has hit safely in 12 of the final 13 games of the regular season and he leads the team in 11 offensive categories (average, hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, total bases, stolen bases, slugging percentage and on-base percentage). Greene is the only Aggie that has appeared in every game this season. He has recorded at least one hit in 46 of the team’s 56 games this year and has multiple hits in 27 contests. His seven triples lead the Big 12 and rank in the top 20 nationally.
Bullard’s Buysman receives academic accolade at LeTourneau
RICHARDSON — Bullard High School graduate Gina Buysman was one of 16 LeTourneau University (Longview) student-athletes that were honored Tuesday by being named to the American Southwest Conference’s 2010 Academic All-Conference team. Buysman was one of six LeTourneau softball players to receive the award. Each student-athlete is a season letter winner and has participated in at least half of the team’s contests and has carried a career grade point of 3.0 or better.
JBSA to host Memorial Day Bash tourney
The Jacksonville Baseball/Softball Association will be hosting a Memorial Day Bash Tournament this weekend for softball and t-ball. There will be girls 9/10, girls 11/12 and girls 13,14 & 15 divisions with the t-ball tournament being for 5 and 6-year-olds.
