JACKSONVILLE — Lady Eagles shutout Center 5-0; Eagles not as fortunate

CENTER — The No.2-ranked Rusk Lady Eagles got back on the winning track by hanging a goose egg on Center in a District 18-3A game played in Center Friday night. Rusk (19-2, 3-1 in district) won by a final margin of 5-0. The Lady ‘Riders are now 12-10, 2-2. Rusk entertains Jasper at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Center got revenge over Rusk by downing the Eagles 4-3 in the district baseball encounter between the two schools. The Eagle diamond boys also host Jasper at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.



Panthers lose a close one to Lindale; Rumbelow fans nine

BULLARD — LSU signee, Nick Rumbelow, struck out nine Lindale batters but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles outlasted Bullard, 4-2, in a non-district affair played at Panther Field Friday evening. Lindale (8-5) plated two runs in the first inning, but Bullard (11-5) came right back to even the score in the bottom of the fifth. The Eagles then tacked on single tallies in each of the final-two segments to scratch out the win. Justin Copeland belted a pair of two-run singles for the Eagles. Josh Stoffregen went the distance on the mound to collect the win for Lindale. He allowed two runs on four hits and whiffed six. Rumbelow, who also hurled a complete game, was saddled with the loss, despite giving up just three hits. Bullard opens the District 17-3A portion of their docket at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday by hosting Gilmer.



Spring Hill powers past Lady Panthers in loop opener

BULLARD — Spring Hill’s Lizzie Autrey went 5-for-5 at the plate, including rocketing a three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Lady Panthers from Longview bashed the local Lady Panthers, 13-2, in the District 17-3A game played in Bullard Friday night.  Courtney Scott notched the win in the circle for Spring Hill (14-9, 2-0 in district). She pitched seven innings, gave up nine hits and fanned six while not walking a Bullard batter. Ashley Gwartney took the loss in the circle for Bullard (0-2 in league play).



Bullard-ex, Greene, has Red Raiders

COLLEGE STATION — Former Bullard High School standout, Brody Greene, delivered a two-run single through the left side to put Texas A&M ahead for good at 3-2 as the Aggies won their Big 12 opener, 6-3, over Texas Tech Friday night before a crowd of 4,006 fans at Olsen Field. The victory was the Aggies’ 11th in their last 12 games as they improved to 14-3 and 1-0 in league play. Texas Tech now slips to 8-11, 0-1. The single by Greene extends his current career-best hitting streak to 13 games.



Three Rivers ends Navarro’s NJCAA title hopes

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — On the strength of a game-ending 10-2 run, Three Rivers Community College (29-6) was able to defeat Navarro College (29-6), the Region XIV title holders, in the NJCAA Championship Tournament on Friday. Three Rivers’ 76-68 victory propels the team into Saturday night’s title game against Howard College (32-2) from Big Spring, Texas. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs will lock horns with College of Eastern Utah (26-10) Saturday evening in the third-place tilt. Darian Thibodeaux led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points and Chase Harper knocked in 15.
