LANEVILLE —
New Summerfield Hornet head basketball coach Jason Davis said prior to tip off of Friday night's game against No. 6-ranked Laneville that he liked his team's chances against the Yellowjackets.
About 90 minutes later Davis was chirping a different tune as Laneville brought its “A” game to Yellowjacket Gymnasium, and as a result the 'Jackets ran roughshod over the Hornets.
The final score was 76-60.
The game was determined by the events — an 18-0 Yellowjacket run — that played out over a four-minute span that began with 1:38 to play in the first quarter.
Laneville(5-3) led 34-9 after the progression, which pretty much eliminated the Hornets' chances at securing a victory.
Wendell Thomas logged a double-double (16 points, 14 rebounds) to pace the Hornet effort.
Austin Gray led NS in scoring by dropping in 21 points on 7-of-11 (63.6%) shooting from the field.
Gray also sank two shots from long distance.
Angel Marroquin also finished up in double figures for the Hornets by canning 10 points.
Kendrick Anderson of Laneville led all players by scoring 27 points.
NS (1-7) will look to get back on track at 7 p.m. tonight when the Hornets are scheduled to visit No. 9-ranked LaPoyner (9-1).
