NEW SUMMERFIELD —
New Summerfield has plowed their way through opponents in route to posting a 5-1 record thus far this season.
The Lady Hornets won again on Saturday evening, but it didn't come easy.
The NS girls outscored Troup 10-6 in the fourth quarter to take a 42-39 verdict over the Lady Tigers in the third-place game of the New Summerfield Hot House Classic.
NS lost for the first time this year on Friday, when the Lady Hornets were tripped up by Union Grove, 44-41.
A pair of Lady Hornets seniors, Simone Derrett and Maritzza Melendez, paved the path to victory of New Summerfield, who led 22-20 at the break, by chunking in 16 points apiece.
Cristal Zuniga added nine for the winning cause.
Derrett and Melendez also paced the Lady Hornets in rebounds, netting six each.
The NS girls are back on the court tonight when they visit West Rusk at 5 p.m.
The Lady Raiders defeated Union Grove to win the Hot House Classic, so the Lady Hornets should expect a stern test in New London.
