JACKSONVILLE — The JC men took the lead for good with 5:02 to play in the game and then spent the rest of the night fending off the hard charging Cougars from Coastal Bend.
CBC cut it to a one possession game with 31 seconds left when the Cougars sliced the Jaguar lead to 82-79.
But JC got two key defensive stops in the remaining seconds of play to secure the win, its fifth in the last six games.
Mitchell Farr led JC with 16 points, Davon Anderson added 15 while Nimrod Hillard IV pumped in 14.
JC's Daniel Skinner was the game's top board man with 11.
CBC's Brandon Golden led all players with 25 points, which included three triples.
As a team CBC shot 9-19 (47.4%) from beyond the arc.
JC (19-7, 10-5) hosts Lee College at 6 p.m. Saturday, while CBC (13-10, 6-9) pays a visit to Lamar State-Port Arthur on the same day.
