JACKSONVILLE —
Jacksonville took a 5-5 record into its final non-district match last night at John Tyler (results not available as of press time).
The Tribe have had an up and down season thus far.
After showing a lot of promise by taking a 5-1 win over Lindale in the season opener, Jacksonville went 0-3 in the Longview Tournament on Jan. 17-19.
But the Indians were not down long as they rebounded by winning the Pine Tree Tournament the following weekend.
In that tourney the Tribe claimed wins over Spring Hill (12-0), Pittsburg (2-0) and Pearland (3-2) before dousing district rival Palestine 3-2 in the championship game.
Since the Pine Tree Tournament the Indians have been struggling to score goals and have lost consecutive matches against Lufkin (4-1) and to Hallsville (3-1) in their most recent outing, which came last Friday.
Head coach Randy Hammontree said his biggest concern at this point is his team's inability to score on a consistent basis.
The jacksonville boys will have an open date on Friday and will ease into district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday be welcoming Nacogdoches to Tomato Bowl.
Other schools in Jacksonville's district are: Diboll, Palestine, Lufkin Hudson and Center.
The Indians are the defending district champions, but were smacked hard with graduation losses last spring.
