Bullard bombs Rusk in both ends of 17-3A DH

BULLARD — BULLARD – A tenacious full court defense paved the way for Bullard to keep their District 17-3A record unblemished with a dominating, 73-33, win over Rusk on Friday night at Panther Gymnasium.

Texas Tech-signee, Minta Spears scored 22 of her game-high 31 points in the opening half as Bullard cruised to a 50-10 advantage at halftime.

Adding to the first half woes for Rusk, Kylie Nichols busted a 3-pointer for a 45-8 lead, and teammate Rachel Horton knocked down a trey in the final seconds of the half for the 40-point bulge. Horton added 17 first half points and finished up the game with 20 points in the contest.

The second half was more of the same, starting with Nichols' second 3-pointer to start the half.

The Lady Eagles did manage to stay with Bullard in the third period, outscoring Bullard 14-13.

Kristen Fuller paced the Lady Eagles  with 14 points.

The Lady Eagles (1-3), will look to get back on the winning track against Brownsboro on Tuesday night in Rusk, with a 6 p.m. tip off slated.

The Lady Panthers (19-9; 4-0) will host Chapel Hill  at 6 p.m.on Tuesday.

Boys: Bullard 82, Rusk 35

BULLARD -  The Bullard Panthers came out bombing from 3-point range early on en route to a 82-35 district win over Rusk on Friday night. The long range bombs slacked off after the first half, but the Panthers kept right on rolling to even their district mark at 1-1.

Senior -guard Taft Rose sank three treys in the opening quarter to send Bullard to a 23-13, lead. Rose scored 17 points in the first half and totaled out with 19 points in the game.

The entire Bullard roster got in the scorebook as David Heithoff scored 12, Tyler Grabski and Blayne Noble added 8 points apiece in the win.

The Panthers began to pull away for good leading 23-13 before the Panthers scored 20 points and held Rusk to only 4 points in the stanza for a decisive 43-17 lead at intermission.

Michael Pyle was the lone Eagle in double-digits, scoring 11 points and Chaston Bennett added on 7 points in the setback.

The Panthers will entertain Chapel Hill in another league match up next Tuesday. Rusk will play at home against Brownsboro on the same night.
