TYLER —
Jacksonville is one of 16 teams that have signed up to play in the Tyler 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament on Saturday at Lindsey Park in Tyler.
The abbreviated Tribe squad will be playing in Pool C, along with former district rival Marshall, Mount Pleasant and Lufkin.
Each team will play the other teams in its pool, with the winner advancing to a single-elimination tournament - there are four pools in the tournament.
Pool A will feature Longview, Whitehouse, Sulphur Springs and Beaumont Central.
In Pool B, Lindale and Tyler Lee No. 2 will join Rockwall and Brenham.
Finally, Tyler Lee, Lindale No.2, Denison and Terrell will do battle in Pool D.
Pool play begins a 9 a.m. sharp and should end at noon.
After a short break the winners from each division will battle in the semi-finals, with the championship game to immediately follow.
The first and second place finishers from the tournament will qualify for the state 7-on-7 championship tournament, which takes place next month in College Station.
Jacksonville has been preparing for the tourney with weekly league games against Rusk and Chapel Hill.
