RUSK —
Most of the area'a powerlifting teams converged upon Rusk on Saturday to take part in the annual Rusk Invitational at Eagle Gymnasium.
A total of 12 boys and 11 girls teams participated in the competition with Bullard winning first place in the boy's segment, with 43 points.
eis been organizing powerlifting meets for 15 years, said that he was pleased with the turnout and the spirit of competitiveness that the lifters displayed.
“We had a great meet,” he said. “Everything ran smooth and we had 12 schools here, which I thought was a good number.”
Palestine Westwood came in second with 39 points, followed by Huntington in third with 25 points.
Jacksonville wound up fifth, garnering 14 points, with Rusk at sixth, with 12 points.
Troup tallied seven points to take eighth place.
Rusk just missed taking first on the girl's side, as Palestine chalked up 34 points to the Lady Eagles' 33.
Of the remaining area teams, Troup came in fourth with 28 points, followed by Bullard in sixth, with 15.
Jacksonville , with nine points, captured seventh.
“We're pleased that our girls were one point from winning the meet,” Patton said. “I think we have a strong girls team this year and I think that we'll being seeing several of the girls qualify for regionals later in the year.
“Our boys have got off to a good start and I anticipate improvement from week to week as the regular season goes forward.”
Rusk will return to action on Jan. 28 when they travel to the Malakoff Meet.
Meanwhile, the Jacksonville lifters are not scheduled to lift again until Feb. 4 (Palestine Meet).
