JACKSONVILLE — No. 1-ranked Guard receive bye in state playoffs
BULLARD — Brook Hill (24-3) remains the top-ranked team in the weekly Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll of small private schools. The Guard, district champions out of TAPPS 4-3A, earned a first round bye in the state playoffs which began last night, and will face either Carrollton Prince of Peace or Flower Mound Coram Deo on Friday or Saturday. That game will be played in Bullard.
Donkey basketball coming to Rusk Feb. 17
RUSK — The Rusk High School seniors will take on the Rusk State Hospital Employee Council in a wild and outrageous game of donkey basketball, to played Wednesday night, Feb. 17, at the old Rusk High School Gymnasium. The players will actually be riding donkeys will displaying their respective roundball skills. Advanced tickets may be purchased at Brookshire Brothers in Rusk for $6.00 or may be obtained at the door at a cost of $8.00. Proceeds will benefit the RHS Senior Finale and the Rusk State Hospital Employee Council.
JHS tennis team to host invitational Friday; Montes wins big at JT Meet
The Jacksonville High School tennis team will be hosting the Jacksonville Invitational beginning at 8 a.m. Friday at four locations throughout the city. Play will take place at the JHS Tennis Complex, Jacksonville Middle School, Buckner Park and at the Jacksonville Country Club. JHS netters participated in the John Tyler Tournament last Friday with Isaac Montes winning the consolation final (8-5) over Josh Noble of Whitehouse. The following doubles teams all garnered first round wins: Dylan Hanna & Morgan Weaver, Kyle Crosby & Spencer Jay as well as Alicia Coronilla & Elisha Carpenter.
