New ITA poll ranks Lady Jaguar tennis among nation's top 25 programs

JACKSONVILLE — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), college tennis' governing body so-to-speak, slotted Jacksonville College at No. 25 in its first national poll released on Thursday.

The Lady Jaguars made another splash when Britney Sibley and Kerri Kirkpatrick garnered top-50 rankings in singles as well as top-35 mention in doubles.

Sibley checked in at No. 47 in singles and Kirkpatrick was at No. 49.

The duo are ranked No. 37 in the country in doubles.

Sibley and Kirkpatrick are both freshmen at JC and are products of Ennis High School.

“Britney and Kerri came in with great attitudes and they focused on getting better and better throughout the fall,” Kenneth Michaud, JC head tennis coach said. “They came here with the desire to get better and to be good students. Those things have always been a top priority with both of them and I am excited for them to get this national recognition.”

Michaud said that it was his opinion that Sibley and Kirkpatrick caught the eyes of some of the voters in the ITA poll after a particularly strong showing at a tournament hosted by Texas Lutheran University this fall.

Michaud said that if Sibley and Kirkpatrick can continue along the avenue that they have traveled this fall, that their potential is unlimited.

“Success is a process,” Michaud said. “It's about hard work, strong character and being committed to academics.

“If these two young ladies can continue what they have started here this fall then there will be a lot of opportunities for them down the road.”

In the team standings Tyler Junior College was ranked No. 1, followed by State College of Florida, ASA, Collin College and Seminole (Okla.) State College.
