RUSK —
The young Lady Eagle spikers from Rusk have played the best of 4A and 5A teams in pre-district to make ready for a district title and made quick work of the Lady Dogs of Crockett with a win in three straight games, 25-8, 25-20 and 25-11 on Friday at Eagle Coliseum.
The Lady Eagles got a great overall team effort according to head coach, Stephanie Branch.
“We have got a really young team and we are still learning some new positions for the some of the girl’s” said Branch. “But we played team ball today and passed the ball well, and got to work on some things we needed to improve on.
“We have lost several players that chose not to play this year and so we have made adjustments and brought some help up from the JV that have stepped up for us,” Branch added.
Leading the way for Rusk (11-14) up front in the Crockett win was Shayla Townsend with 12 kills and six service aces.
Lady Eagle Emily Price had four blocks up front and senior, first year setter, Juliann Bowling chipped in with 20 assists.
Crockett (6-12), got a strong game from up front from Megan Davis and Madison Foster.
