Spears named to Class 3A all-state team as a sophomore

BULLARD — Bullard's Minta Spears was named to the Texas Girls Coaching Association class 3A All-State Team on Tuesday.

Spears, only a sophomore, helped guide the Lady Panthers to a 30-9 finish, the team's best in the modern era.

Bullard's quest for a state championship was denied by Madisonville, 64-37, in the Region II final.

Spears, who led the Lady Panthers in scoring (13.3 ppg), steals (4.9) and blocks (1.9 bpg) scored 23 points in her team's  59-51upset win over Bryan Rudder in the regional semi-final late last month.

Only 18 sophomores in the five classifications earned all-state recognition.

Bullard is coached by Greg Gay.
