JACKSONVILLE —
The District 14-4A coaches have recognized several Indians, along with Tribe head coach, Brent Kelley, with the recent announcement of the conference’s all-district squad.
Three of the five superlative honors went to the Indians.
Duke Hamilton, a senior point guard, had been choosen as the league’s Most Valuable Player.
“It is good, after winning a disrict championship, to be thought of so well by the other coaches in the district,” Hamilton said Tuesday morning.
He went on to say he was very surprised, but nevertheless mindfull at the significance of the plaudit.
“I’m actually shocked that I have won (this award), but it sure is a good feeling to know the opposing coaches selected me (as MVP),” Hamilton said. “I think I’ve proven myself on the (basketball) floor and this is agood way for me to end my career at Jacksonville.”
Moreland nabbed Defensive Player of the Year honors for his keen rebounding and blocking ability as well as being know as one of the top players in steals in the league.
“I am surprised at winning the defensive award, because I didn’t even think I was the best defensive player on the team; but I guess the coaches noticed something,” Moreland said.
Moreland added that receiving this honor this year will only motivate him to perform better next season.
Kelley, in his first year as a varsity head caoch, earned Coach of the Year praise for guiding Jacksonville to an undefeated (10-0) loop campaign.
Kelley, is a graduate of Garrison High School and Stephen F. Austin State University.
Ryan Black and Justin Davis picked up First Team awards while LaVante Franklin and Chris Hall captured Honorable Mention merits.
