JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville baseball team struggles in Henderson
HENDERSON — Jacksonville found the going tough at the Henderson Booster Club Tournament over the weekend as the Indians came up short to Nacogdoches (19-0), Carthage (11-0) and Marshall (19-1). Brody Finch and Brian Fuqua each went 1-for-2 against the Dragons. Ryan Davlin got the start on the hill and incurred the loss after giving up nine hits, four walks and a strike out. Cody Rodriquez and Brandon Orr finished up the pitching chores for the Indians. Rodriquez and Orr combined to allow five hits, nine walks while fanning one. Finch gave a good account at the dish against Carthage, going 2-for-2 (a single and a double) while Orr had a single as well. The Indians return to action tonight at 6 p.m. by hosting Marshall at Summers-Norman Field.
No.1-ranked Lady Eagles move to 13-0 on the year
LONGVIEW — Rusk won its first four games in the Longview “Texas Two Step” Tournament to improve to 13-0 on the year. Head coach Ashley McElroy-Christian’s Lady Eagles are the No.1-ranked team in the Class 3A TGCA poll. Highlighting tournament play for Rusk were victories over Nacogdoches (7-0) and Pine Tree (9-4). Callie Collins and Arika Minchew had over-the-fence round trippers for Rusk. The Lady Eagles open the District 18-3A campaign at 6:30 p.m. tonight when they welcome Diboll to Lady Eagle Park.
JHS soccer: Indians beat Wildcats; Palestine slips past Maidens
PALESTINE — The Jacksonville Indians improved to 12-7-1, 7-0-1 in District 35-4A, by disposing of Palestine 3-1 in a match played at Westwood Panther Stadium Friday evening. Anthony Velasquez, Daniel Forry and Javier Guerrera all had goals for the Tribe. Jacksonville plays its final home match of the season at 7 p.m. tonight when the Indians host Nacogdoches. Jacksonville downed the Dragons, 3-1, on Feb. 19 in Nacogdoches. The Maidens came up on the short end of a 1-0 match against the Palestine girls Friday. The Maidens now stand 8-8-5, 5-2 in league play, and will be on the road in Nacogdoches for a 7 p.m. match this evening. Both JHS soccer units have clnched a playoff spot.
Orr receives scholarship from Tyler Area basketball Officials group
Jacksonville senior, Brandon Orr, recently received a scholarship to the college of his choice from the Tyler Area Basketball Officials (TABO) organization. Orr was nominated by Indian head basketball coach, Brent Kelley who attended the banquet and awards presentation with Orr. Several scholarships are presented annually to deserving individuals (boys and girls) from throughout the region. Orr also played on the Indian football team and is currently a member of the Tribe baseball unit.

The Jaguars from Jacksonville College outplayed host Navarro College for most of the night, but the Bulldogs came on strong in the final seven minutes and when the final horn had sounded at the Wolens Special Events Center, it was the 'Dogs that had secured the 71-68 victory.

Cold shooting spurts to open both halves of play was basically what prevented the Lon Morris College Lady Bearcats from handing the No. 19-ranked Paris Junior College Lady Dragons an upset on Wednesday evening at the Smith Events Center.

Paris Junior College took advantage of Lon Morris College's thin ranks — the Bearcats dressed just nine men out (due to injuries) for Wednesday's Region XIV game — by dispensing an 83-66 loss to the 'Cats at the Smith Events Center.

While not in any immediate danger of not making the Region XIV Championship Tournament early next month, both the Lon Morris College Bearcats and the Jacksonville College Jaguars, who are tied fifth in the South Zone, realize there is far more uncertainty as to their status then neither would feel comfortable with as conference play nears its halfway point this week.
