Cherokee District WMA holds ‘Feast with Esther’

Special to the Progress

The Cherokee District Women Motivated to Action met on Oct. 13 and enjoyed a “Feast with Esther” by Cindy Allen. Food was prepared by Craft Baptist and First Baptist churches of Jacksonville, and dining entertainment was provided by the Jacksonville College choir.

The meeting was called to order by President Alicia Johnson with the opening prayer by Sandy Jones. The repeating of the WMA motto and the singing of “Revive Us Again” was led by JoAnn Bass with Eloise Thompson as the pianist. Welcome remarks were delivered by Mickie Robertson, with literature by Esther McClurkin. Old business included how to make up the amount short for the 2008-09 goal, given outstanding funds until Dec. 31 to be received, and the balance left would come out of the general account. New business included the new project for 2009-10: a goal of $3,000 is to be raised with 50 percent to be given to the Baptist Theological Seminary and 50 percent to Jacksonville College. Each local WMA is to raise $120 for the year if possible. A baked potato supper will be planned for the spring. The Cherokee District WMA will continue its collections. Baby items for Living Alternatives, teddy bears for the Crisis Center, shepherd’s bags for EIM and supplies for the Baptist Children’s Home will be collected.

  • Where to look in the Bible when we are in danger

When we are in danger, read Psalm 91. Verses 9-13 tell us some of the ways the Lord protects us, “If you say, ‘The LORD is my refuge, and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.  For he will command His angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.”

Grace Beal of Cuney drops her prayer request in her church’s prayer request box. She has extended her challenge for prayer requests. The minister of the New Testament Holiness Church at 160 CR 3510 has been holding open air services each night at the church. The services are held at 6:30 p.m. Beal said people should “believe God. He is the one who will answer prayers.” People may drop prayer requests in the box in front of the church.

  • What would you ask of God?

If God spoke to you and told you could ask Him for one thing and He would grant it, what would you ask for?  Before you read any further, take some time to think about that question.  If the Creator of all there is offered to grant you one request, what would you consider the ultimate gift from Almighty God?

  • Listening for that trumpet call

I was awakened recently by a loud blast that sounded like a horn blowing.  Guess what my first thought was.  Yep, I wondered, “Is this it?  Is that the trumpet call?”
