Harvest Fest is Saturday
Harvest Fest 2008 will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 inside the Tomato Bowl. As always, there is no admission; and free raffle tickets will be given to each attendee. Local bands Considered Rubbish (of Nacogdoches) and Mud Creek Revival (of Rusk) will open for KJ-52, one of the biggest names in contemporary Christian rap. Tim Byrne will also showcase his skills on the skateboard while sharing his message.
Gospel-singing at People’s Church
People’s Church will have a gospel-singing beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the church. At 7 p.m. church members will serve dinner and then the singing will continue. The church is located on Highway 79 West, just before The Woods of Jacksonville golf club.
‘Hee Haw’ cast member at People’s Church
Lulu Roman, the most requested female cast member of the long-running hit television series, “Hee Haw,” will be the featured speaker and entertainer at the 10:30 a.m. service at People’s Church on Sunday, Sept. 28. The pastor, the Rev. Andy Fannette, says the public is invited to attend at no charge.
Noel to speak at Lookout Valley revival

leaving FBC-Neches
The Rev. Charles Grasty, pastor at First Baptist Church of Neches for 21 years, has resigned and accepted the call from New York Baptist Church in Larue to serve as its pastor. Grasty and his wife, Debbie, have been faithful servants for all these years in many areas of service — preaching, singing and ministering — and will be missed. A Pastor Search Committee will be formed in the next several weeks to begin the process of finding a new minister.
Choir Appreciation Service at New Prospect
The Rev. Charles A. Cummings and the members of New Prospect Baptist Church invite all area pastors and churches in celebrating New Prospect’s Choir Appreciation Service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. The program theme is “Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord, Praise ye the Lord,” from Psalm 150:6. Special guest for the service is the Rev. Derrick Lott and South Union Missionary Baptist Church Family of Palestine. All area churches are invited and asked to render an A-selection.
Study Revelations at Bridlewood Church
You are invited to a 12-week Bible study on the Book of Revelation that began Wednesday evening, Sept. 24, at Bridlewood Church. Calvary Kids’ Club has started at Calvary Baptist
Calvary Kids’ Club began earlier this month at Calvary Baptist Church, 122 Tena, Jacksonville. School-aged children from the area are invited and encouraged to attend each Wednesday during the school year from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (No club meetings when students are on holiday from school).
During Calvary Kids’ Club, students are taught the Bible, challenged to learn Scripture, enjoy a time of games and physical challenges, sing some choruses and have a snack. Clean, wholesome, spiritual and friendship building fun.
There is an adult Bible study in the sanctuary during the same hour.
There will also be a water-filled gallon jar with a small glass in it and as the “Kids” sign in each week they have a chance to drop a quarter in the jar and if it lands in the glass, they get a treat. Although not a requirement, pre-registration may be done any Sunday at 9:45 a.m.

Bowens Temple
celebration banquet
The pastor and members of the Bowens Temple Church family invite the public to the first appreciation banquet for Pastor Chester Whitaker for his 20 years of service to the Jacksonville community.
The event is at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce St., Jacksonville.

St. John’s celebrates 50th anniversary
St. Johns United Methodist Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary of service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
The Rev. Nick Scholar, the present district superintendent and a former pastor, will deliver the message. Several former pastors will take part in the celebration worship. Former members and friends are invited to attend. Lunch will be served. The church had its first meeting at Lon Morris College on Oct. 5, 1958, and met there for six months before moving their services to Beaumont Street.
The meetings were held in a house on the property they had purchased. It served as a temporary home for the new congregation until the present sanctuary building was completed.
Playday for young
cowpokes at Christ Cowboy Church
Branded by Christ Cowboy Church is holding a playday for young cowboys and cowgirls on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the church’s arena located five miles north of the intersection of Hwys. 84 and 110 in Rusk. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., events begin at 10 a.m. Classes include barrels, poles, rescue, egg and spoon and potato and apple bobs. Classes will be divided into under age 15 and open brackets.
