The 9th Annual East Texas Baptist Campmeeting will be held Monday through Friday, July 21, at the Canton Civic Center on the First Monday grounds in Canton.
“This Campmeeting is being held as a ministry to the people of East Texas to provide Southern gospel music, Bible preaching and Christian fellowship,” according to Founder and Moderator, Evangelist Dennis Erwin of Edgewood, Texas. “Campmeetings have their roots back in the 1800s and have had a tremendous impact for Christ through the years. They are a combination revival meeting, evangelistic outreach and Bible conference. Canton is a wonderful, central location for this type of meeting and the air-conditioned Canton Civic Center can accommodate up to 2,000 people.”
With an average attendance last year of more than 500 per night and more than 1,000 on Friday night, this is one of the largest religious gatherings in East Texas.
The featured singers each night will be three nationally known groups: The Bob Wills Family, based out of First Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas, the Rochester Family from Blacksburg, South Carolina, who are members of the Trinity Baptist Church in Ashville, North Carolina and the Dennis Erwin Family from Edgewood, Texas. Other singers will be Living Proof from Jacksonville, Texas and the Messengers Quartet from Central Texas. Pastor Mark Thrift from Parkwood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas and Pastor Ronnie Barefield from Unity Baptist Church in Ripley, Mississippi are the featured preachers.
Pastor Tony Monk from Enterprise Baptist Church in Enterprise, Mississippi will preach on Wednesday night during a special evangelistic service. The services will begin at 7 p.m. with a prayer meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. nightly.
On Friday night, three Texas pastors with more than 50 years of ministry each, will be honored and recognized for their distinguished Gospel ministry.
“These three men represent over 150 years of combined preaching and service to the Lord. Since we have Southern Baptists, Missionary Baptists and Independent Baptists who attend our meeting, we have chosen to honor a man from each of those Baptist groups,” said Erwin.
No registration or charge is required for the Campmeeting. A love offering will be received nightly to cover the cost of the meeting. For more information call Evangelist Dennis Erwin at 903-896-7727.
