As always there is two sides to a vote. I’d like to state my own personal position.
I’m for off-premises consumption (of alcohol). It is the people’s choice if they wish to participate.
At 18 years of age, men and women are accountable to make a choice, right or wrong. They were drafted to protect our country — many didn’t and don’t come back from war.
I praise the Lord he has seen fit to allow America to remain free as it is with his guidance. Even the Lord had wine with the disciples.
As for the Cherokee County commissioner with “no comment,” perhaps it’s because election time is near!
Reminds me of an ol’ saying, “Baptist drink, but not in front of each other!”
Make the sellers responsible for checking IDs before the product is sold to the person if there are questions of teens buying alcohol. Wake up Jacksonville, these students knew, or know, they can get mind-altering drugs most anywhere. How about your own medicine cabinet?
I’ve made some mighty good fruit cakes using wine or brandy for moisture, that even a pastor friend enjoyed.
I can remember when I was a young’n way back when, home concoctions worked wonders for coughs, antiseptic, etc. Didn’t hurt any of us six kids or children, whichever you prefer.
A few doctors say to some folks a glass of wine with a meal is good for the body. Folks here are like all us — sinners. There will always be over indulgence for some select few people; others will drive or walk or hitch hike three miles or 20 miles to get their fix.
So for those of us that like moderation, an occasional cold brew after work, a glass of wine while cooking dinner, or mixing up a batch of beer batter for a fish fry, mixing hot rolls or tenderizing meat, baking fruit cake and other recipes, it’s not going to make me a bad Baptist, Methodist or other denomination.
When you’re voting on the ballot, it’s between you and your maker.
