Editor’s note: A Jacksonville resident has been reviewing movies for friends for several years and has offered to share his thoughts with Daily Progress readers. His reviews come in personal letters to his nicknamed friend, Spud Nut. Our reviewer is Tater Tot, so consequently, the movies get ratings based on potatoes.
Spud Nut,
The Tooth Fairy (rated PG, 102 minutes) has some funny moments, especially when Billy Crystal is on camera.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays his part well as an aggressive, disillusioned hockey star known for knocking out the teeth of opposing teams. His athletic nickname becomes his magical identity after he is found guilty of disseminating disbelief and must learn the value of having hopes and dreams in life.
Julie Andrews looks just the way all fairy godmothers should. Back in the world of reality, the lovely Ashley Judd has become a middle-age actress who must play mother roles.
The script would have been slightly better with fewer cutesy family scenes. The writers borrowed heavily from the “Men In Black” when employing a prop device that causes amnesia in bystanders in order to hide the secret world of fairies.
The soundtrack has some classic guitar riffs that are good listening, and don’t miss the funny scenes that pop up during the closing credits.
Overall, this movie has nearly three potatoes worth of screen value for our kind of film fans.

Just Ask Janet: Kudos to the engines behind the hit parade
I went to the Christmas Parade Thursday night, and I am so tickled to tell you that it was wonderful! I say kudos to the Chamber of Commerce and all those who participated in the parade for making this year’s event so much fun.

Don’t outsource tax collections
Received my letter from the appraisal district, very alarming. It seems someone (little/flowers) is discussing to combine the appraisal district and the county tax office.
