JACKSONVILLE —
Editor’s note: A Jacksonville resident has been reviewing movies for friends for several years and has offered to share his thoughts with Daily Progress readers. His reviews come in personal letters to his nicknamed friend, Spud Nut. Our reviewer is Tater Tot, so consequently, the movies get ratings based on potatoes.
Spud Nut,
Inception (PG-13, 148 minutes) takes illusionary special effects to their logical conclusion in a story about creating imaginary reality in the dream life of people.
The issue of distinguishing reality from artificial images goes several levels beyond the scenes generated in The Matrix.
Leonardo DiCaprio makes us believe that the subconscious can be manipulated by an outsider.
Thanks to the brilliant direction of Christopher Nolan, who also brought us Memento, this movie is totally absorbing and, at times, even confusing in an intriguing sort of way.
Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine give powerful performances worthy of a Golden Globe ensemble cast award.
This movie will be nominated for the best picture award and best director award at the Academy Awards, and will surely win something.
If you can follow this story during the first viewing of it, then you deserve a four potato rating for your attentiveness and intelligent ability to comprehend complex ideas.

Just Ask Janet: Kudos to the engines behind the hit parade
I went to the Christmas Parade Thursday night, and I am so tickled to tell you that it was wonderful! I say kudos to the Chamber of Commerce and all those who participated in the parade for making this year’s event so much fun.
