JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Colonel-Retired, George Douglas, age 78, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 30, 2012 at Autry Funeral Home chapel, Jacksonville.  The Rev. Peggy Edge will officiate.

Internment will be at Still Waters Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville.

Mr. Douglas passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Jacksonville.

He was born March 7, 1934, in Webster Springs, W. Virginia. In 1995, George was recipient of the distinguished Business Man of the Year. He was a member and past president of the Jacksonville Rotary Club, a member of the East Texas Council of Governments and a graduate of the University of W. Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.  George was a graduate of the Command and General Staff school with the United States Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  Mr. Douglas was past chairman of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Division, having served for several years.  He also served on the Jacksonville Economic Development Board of Directors and was currently a member of the Economic Development Council.  He was co-owner and general manager of Tally-Ho Plastics in Jacksonville.

Mr. Douglas served his country in the United States Army from 1955 until his retirement in 1994.  He was a member of the elite Green Berets.  This distinction was one of his most coveted accomplishments.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Marie Douglas.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jean Douglas, Jacksonville, two sons and spouses, Rick and Mindy Douglas, Shingle Springs, CA., and Ron and Janis Douglas, Buffalo Grove, IL.; daughter, Cindy Duffy, Palatine IL.; and six grandchildren, Erin Duffy, Collier Douglas, Jack Duffy, Sydney Douglas, Madison Douglas, and Elyse Douglas.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Mehlenbacher, Raymond Grubbs, David Brock, Darrell Prcin, Brett Brewer, and Richard Birch.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Ayers, Richard East, John Haddad, and Julian Haddad.

Visitation with the Douglas family will be Sunday afternoon from 4:00 - 6:00 pm April 29, 2012 at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
