JACKSONVILLE —
Funeral services for Henry Wayne Kersten, age 78, of Ponta, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 10, at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with Randall Birdsong officiating.
Burial will be held at Myrtle Springs Cemetery, Ponta.
Mr. Kersten passed away Sun., Jan. 6, 2013 in Tyler.
He was born Aug.5, 1934 in Houston.
Mr. Kersten was a retired Lieutenant with the Houston Police Department. He joined the Police Academy Class #15 on Oct. 1, 1956. He was last assigned to the Homicide Division and retired on March 4, 1988. He was a member of the National Guard, Masonic Lodge #108 in Jacksonville, Past Patron of Eastern Star #377 in Jacksonville, a Shriner with Sharon’s Temple, and a member of First Baptist Church in Ponta.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Kersten and Lillian Louvier, sisters Gladys Singleton, Darlene Harp, and Janice Halliburton, and granddaughter Melody Ann Kersten.
Survivors include his wife Sarale Kersten of Ponta, son Lance Kersten and wife Holly of Jacksonville, daughter Candace Williams and husband Kent Lewis of Willis, seven grandchildren, Shane Kersten and wife Crystal, Holly Blanchard and husband Matt, Jett Jenkins, Thomas McGee and wife Jennifer, Corey McGee and wife Stephanie, Brandi Wade and husband Billy, and Casey Stanley and husband Michael, sixteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Wed., Jan. 9, Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Ponta or to the American Cancer Society, 1301 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler, Texas 75701.
