JACKSONVILLE —
Jacksonville Independent School District Board of Trustees has passed both its budget and an ordinance to adopt a new tax rate for the 2010-2011 school year. School officials stated the tax rate of $1.13, $1.04 in maintenance and operations and $.09 in interest and sinking, was passed along with the $33,474,939 budget during the regular board meeting.
Both items followed a public hearing in which none spoke either in favor or against the tax rate or budget, officials stated. The budget and tax rate were approved unanimously.
A series of reports were delivered to the board during the Monday evening meeting. The final ratings for the 2009-2010 State Accountability results were given, as was the preliminary Adequate Yearly Progress ratings for the district. Officials stated all campuses met their AYP benchmarks.
The Vision 20/20 Technology Grant, designed to make sure all JISD ninth grade students have access to a laptop, is in the works. Officials stated the bugs are being pressed out of the system to prepare the laptops for use.
In addition, board members discussed the possibility of JISD administrators participating as substitute teachers in the district for one day each semester, though no decisions were made on this report at the meeting.
Before entering into the normal action agenda, the board set the dates for the October, November and December board meetings as the 11th, 11th and 13th, respectively. All are currently scheduled for 6:30 p.m., though the usual location of the administration office board room may be changed.
Other items were approved during the meeting:
• Final 2009-2010 budget amendment.
• Vendor bid for around $110,000 with Texas Association of School Boards risk management to continue an interlocal agreement for property and casualty insurance.
• Waiver to the Texas Education Agency for a timeline for accelerated instruction. Officials stated this allows the school to tutor students who fail their Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test three times.
• List of 21 Professional Development Appraisal System appraisers for 2010-2011.
• Consent agenda, including minutes for special and regular meetings in July, investment and business reports, budget amendments, donations of $1,000 and over as needed and a tax refund of $1,852.64 to Mitch and Deanna Carroll for 2009.
Before adjournment a routine closed session was held to discuss legal matters, student discipline, real property and professional personnel.
