CCSD continues Bullard-area murder investigation

No suspects have been named in killing

JACKSONVILLE — Cherokee County officials are hard at work on an apparent murder case. Sheriff James Campbell said the incident happened Aug. 27 at 111 Jackie St. in the Shadybrook subdivision on Lake Palestine.

“We are talking to neighbors,” Campbell said Friday. “There have been no new developments in this case.”

According to incident reports, on Aug. 27 before 7 p.m. the sheriff’s department received a call concerning a subject who was found prone in the driveway of a residence. Officers arrived and identified the subject as 52-year-old William Earl Baker. Baker was deceased at the scene with what appeared to be a gunshot wound in the torso.

Area residents reported hearing gunfire between 5 and 5:30 p.m.

No suspects were named by press time.

Campbell said anyone with information concerning the alleged murder is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 903-683-2271.
