Bullard trash rates to rise

BULLARD — The city council approved a slight increase in trash collection rates for Bullard residents at Tuesday's meeting.

Garbage pickup rates are currently $12.93 per month for residents and will increase to $14.98 for one trashcan from and $17.80 for two. City manager Larry Morgan said residents will not be able to opt out of the service.

Allied Waste Services will provide uniform trash cans to all residents in the city in exchange for the increased rate.

Citizens can expect to receive their new garbage collection bin mid-October and collection service using them is set to begin the first week of November, Gene Keenon, manager of government and municipal affairs for Allied Waste, said.

In other business:

• Officials approved implementing a Code Red emergency and severe weather notification system.

• A public hearing was held and the council approved the Envision Bullard 2030 Comprehensive Plan.  

• A public hearing was held on the budget. The budget and the tax rate are scheduled to be voted into place 6 p.m. Thursday Sept. 22 at Bullard City Hall.

• The council also voted to begin the process of annexing pockets of land into the city. Officials said notifications will be sent to affected landowners.
