JACKSONVILLE —
One man was flown to a Tyler hospital by helicopter and another taken to a Jacksonville facility by ground ambulance following a collision between the car they were in and a tree along Lakeshore Drive Monday afternoon.
"This is a really curvy road," explained Jacksonville Fire Department Chief Paul White. "It has humps and curves and kids drive too fast out there sometime. It's a pretty dangerous road if you're driving, and they apparently ran off this road and hit a tree."
The two injured men, both believed to be in their early 20s, were the driver and front seat passenger of the vehicle. The two in the back seat were not believed to be injured, according to authorities.
In another incident, Jacksonville firefighters assisted county authorities tending to a fire Saturday evening along County Road 4217 that gutted a mobile home but injured no one, according to reports.
It happened about 9 p.m. Saturday, attracting Jacksonville, the North Cherokee County Volun-teer Fire Department and the New Summerfield Volunteer Fire Depart-ment.
Authorities arrived on the scene to find the trailer being consumed by flames.
"It burned up the trailer, a double-wide mobile home, from the inside," the fire chief said.
"They don't know the cause of the fire yet, and the Chambers County Sheriff's Department is also investigating. Luckily no one was home at the time."
