The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce invites high school juniors and seniors to participate in its sixth annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day, scheduled for Feb. 4 — appropriately enough, Groundhog’s Day.
Chamber President Peggy Renfro said Jacksonville High School will distribute applications for student job shadowing to eligible students asking the applicant to list skills, work experience, awards and activities. Students will also list three career choices from a number of options.
“The Chamber secures the businesses,” Renfro said. “From 8:30 a.m. to about 11:30 a.m., they go to the businesses and learn.”
Completed forms must be turned in to a Groundhog Day coordinator no later than Dec. 18 in order to participate.
After several hours of shadowing experience, students will convene at the Norman Activity Center to speak with college representatives.
Lucy Farmer, a former Jacksonville High School counselor, will speak at the activity. Lunch will be provided for students and any business officials working with them who attend.
Renfro said the luncheon will cost $10 for those not involved in the day’s work. She encouraged students interested in the job shadowing day to attend.
“Students can have more hands-on activity,” Renfro said. “It’s a one-on-one experience.”
