Terry Morrow, a Tyler police sergeant from Jacksonville, will light East Texas Medical Center’s Christmas tree Tuesday.
The tree, located on the hospital’s front lawn in Tyler, will be lit for its 22nd year.
Morrow, 61, has served the Tyler Police Department for more than 29 years, first as a patrol officer, then a public information officer and now as a supervisor over the north Tyler police substation. He has also worked for the integrity department and the mall substation.
Morrow and his wife Emily live in Jacksonville, and have three children and six grandchildren.
The tree lighting ceremony will kick off at 5 p.m. Tuesday when Santa Claus arrives on his sleigh with two real reindeer. The East Texas Handbell Ensemble will play Christmas carols and the tree will be lit at 5:30 p.m.
A press release from ETMC stated the event is free and open to any interested in attending. Santa will greet children from 5-7 p.m. and parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.
Bob Evans, administrator of ETMC Tyler, commented in a press release the 2009 tree lighting will provide the opportunity for ETMC to honor the Tyler PD.
“The men and women of the Tyler PD are outstanding partners in ETMC’s mission, especially related to our emphasis on emergency and trauma care,” Evans stated. “We are pleased to have the police force members and their families as our special guests this year.”
Morrow has had several surgeries in the past year. His surgeons were Dr. Thomas Grahm and Dr. Paul Dettwiler of the ETMC Neurological Institute.
