NEW SUMMERFIELD — The tranquility of an autumn day in New Summerfield was interrupted Thursday afternoon for residents living on County Road 4304, as firefighting vehicles from six area fire companies, responding to a house fire in the 3000 block of the normally quiet street, filled the roadway.
Shortly after noon, the call came out for fire units from New Summerfield, Rusk, Gallatin, Troup, North Cherokee and Jacksonville to respond to the single-family structure blaze that started around the home’s chimney, in the center portion of the one story-wood structure.
There were no injuries associated with the blaze, which caused heavy damage to the home and its contents.
The fire was quickly brought under control, thanks to the efforts and teamwork of firefighters from the array of jurisdictions on the scene.
Within a half hour of the start of the blaze, firefighters were checking the attic area for any hidden trouble spots and were working on cleanup duties at the scene.
An East Texas Medical Center ambulance and its crew of paramedics were also present as a precautionary measure.
The home is on the southern end of New Summerfield, west of State Highway 110.
