This year’s Relay for Life committee wants the Cherokee County community to get involved in the event in a special way — committee members are appealing to the community to submit ideas for
The organizational committee of the 2010 Relay For Life of Cherokee County met Sept. 15 to set the date for the 2010 event and to establish goals for a successful event in Cherokee County.
Adoption of a theme for the event is something most successful Relays do in order to relate to the fight against cancer so participating teams may adopt team names, acquire campsite decorations and encourage activities to support cancer prevention education and contribute to a fun-filled and memorable night.
The Relay Committee’s action slogan is “Our relay promises to be a memorable event for a meaningful purpose.” The committee will consider all entries submitted and how they can best be incorporated into Relay For Life to fulfill that ideal.
The date for the 2010 Relay For Life of Cherokee County will be April 30, 2010, at Mauldin Field on the campus of Jacksonville High School.
Suggestions for Relay themes may be sent by e-mail to cherokeerelayforlife@yahoo.com, or by mail to Relay For Life Theme Contest at P.O. Box 1835 , Jacksonville , TX 75766. Theme topics submitted will be reviewed and the winning theme chosen by the RFL Committee. Submissions should be received by Nov. 2, 2009. The winner will be recognized and receive an award for his or her contribution to the success of the 2010 Relay For Life of Cherokee County.
The winning entry will be announced at the 2010 Relay For Life Kick-Off party, which has been set for Nov. 9, 2009. More details about the kick-off party will come at a later date. The winner will also be the guest of honor in the Rusk and/or Jacksonville Christmas parades in December.
Entrants should include their name, address, phone number and e-mail address along with their theme suggestion.
