Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus announced committee assignments Wednesday. In response to the announcement State Rep. Chuck Hopson said, “I am eager to get work, and I have confidence in the speaker’s committee appointments.”

Hopson was named chairman of the House Committee on General Investigating and Ethics for a second session. He will also serve as a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Human Services.

“This will be one of the toughest legislative sessions Texas has faced,” Hopson said. “Texas must address an unprecedented budget short fall, pass much needed voter identification legislation, and redraw legislative districts.”

As a member of the Natural Resources Committee, Hopson plans to strengthen East Texans’ water rights.

“Water is East Texas’ most precious resource,” he said. “Since the beginning of time, the rise and fall of communities has been tied to water, and I plan to use my seat on the Natural Resources Committee to protect the future of East Texas.”
