Progress Report: Elections upcoming

JACKSONVILLE — Area districts have announced school board positions that are up for election this year, including those in Alto, Bullard and Jacksonville.

Interested candidates file applications Jan. 30 through March 1, with paperwork available at district administration offices.

Early voting is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 29 through May 7. On the May 11 election day, polling hours are from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

In Alto, voters will cast votes for three board positions: two 3-year terms are currently held by Jay Jones and Lee Pearman, and a 2-year term to which Crispin Skinner was appointed also is up for election.

Early voting will be held at Alto City Hall, while voters flock to the Alto High School cafeteria to cast election day votes.

The Bullard City Hall is site for both early voting and election day voting, according to district officials.

Residents will elect board members for Place 6 – currently held by Tiffany Kirgan – and Place 7, held by Michael Roy.

Two spots are up for election in the Jacksonville school district: Place 1, held by Jeff Horton, and Place 2, held by Blaine Verhelle. Early voting and election day ballots will be cast at the Jacksonville Public Library.
