JACKSONVILLE — Rusk Hish School’s Class of 2010 has some bragging rights, thanks to a program sponsored by Bill McRae Ford and the Ford Motor Company.

Students and their parents raised $18,000 for Senior Finale — a night-long celebration set for graduation night designed to keep seniors safe and off the streets.

“Our students worked very hard to accomplish our goal, which was to reach the 300 maximum test drives that Ford would contribute to,” said Vicki Beard, the event’s coordinator. “The video that won us the rest of our money came later in the process.”

Beard said her job was to work with the students and help them coordinate the Drive One 4 Ur School event.

“We got the senior students to go out into the community and got people to sign up for times throughout the day to drive a new Ford vehicle,” she said. “At that point, Ford gave us everything we needed to make the event happen.

“They made it really nice for us and then the day of the event, we put up everything balloons, signs, etc. We did it on a day when we had a softball and baseball game as well so that drew a crowd.”

Callie Collins, from the senior class of 2010 was one of the main contributing students, said she was excited about the event.

“I was so pleased that we, as a class of seniors, and our friends and family as a community came together as well as they did to support us,” she said.

Beard said the class started organizing in March and it took until April to be fully planned.
