Jumping into a healthier lifestyle

JACKSONVILLE — About 300 elementary students from Joe Wright, Fred Douglass, East Side and West Side filled the Jacksonville Middle School gymnasium to participated in the Jump Rope for Heart activity on Tuesday.

The students were asked to bring a can food to participate in the jump roping, said Jeff Philips, host and Fred Douglass P.E. teacher.

Included at the activity were gift baskets, which were auctioned off to raise money for the American Heart Association. The individual schools raised money as well, Phillips said.
